XAVIER SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
B Tech Computer Science and Engineering
The school offers Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The course structure spreads over eight semesters, and has been designed as per the guidelines of UGC. The structure has been made robust by offering a combination of Core Courses, Elective Courses, Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC). Courses offered in the first year (Semester I and Semester II) and second year (Semester III and Semester IV) are common to all the students. In the third year (Semester V and Semester VI) and fourth year (Semester VII and Semester VIII), students will choose subjects (from the list of electives provided) which they find helpful for their research work. All courses do not carry the same weight. Core and elective courses are of 5, 4 or 3 credits each and ability enhancement courses are of at least 3 credits each. Skill enhancement courses are of 2 credits each.
Teaching methodology consists of lecture inputs, exercises, assignments, design capstone, thesis/project work, presentations, etc. Each instructor uses a suitable mix of methodology to suit the requirements of the course. Students in a course are likewise evaluated in various components, viz. assignment, quiz, laboratory exercise, mid-semester examination, end-semester examination, and other assignments. Course outline / session plan for every course specifying the contents of the course, the methodology and the norms for evaluation is uploaded in the Academic Information System (XUB-Elvis) in the beginning of a semester. The students may, however, check with the instructor if these details are not specified.
